We carry the Gyllodes sigillatus cricket, commonly known as the banded cricket. To ensure you’re getting the most bang for your buck, you want to your feeder crickets to live as long as possible and also be as nutritious as possible to your pet. In this post we will look at how you should be taking care of your banded crickets to get as much usefulness out of them as possible.

Your crickets should live in some sort of plastic container, not glass. The container should be big large enough to allow the crickets to move around. Overcrowding can and will cause your crickets to die at a much quicker rate. The crickets are best kept at room temperature, around 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not use a heat lamp unless the space they are kept is below 70 degrees.

To feed the crickets, all you have to do is leave small pieces of apples, oranges, potato, and other fruits and vegetables in their container. More important than food is ensuring they have fresh, clean water. If your crickets are large it’s okay to give them a shallow dish of water, but if they’re small you will need to place soaked sponges in the container with them.

It’s very important to keep their living area clean. The inside of the container should be wiped down regularly with a clean, damp towel. Make sure any supplies you’re using to care for your crickets are regularly cleaned and disinfected.
